Allow us to share some of our favorite spots on Rue Cler, where we love to indulge in the flavors and ambiance that make Paris so irresistible!
Favorite Cafés and Brasseries on rue Cler
Café Central: This is a classic Parisian café that we adore because of its charming ambiance and diverse menu. We always go here for a delightful croque madame sandwich or to enjoy a cocktail while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of Rue Cler. You can come in for breakfast, lunch or dinner, making it a perfect spot for any time of the day.
Café du Marché: As one of the oldest cafés on the street, we love this spot for its wonderful people-watching opportunities and delicious food at reasonable prices.
Le Petit Cler: Nestled amidst the lively energy of Rue Cler, Le Petit Cler has been one of our favorites for years. It’s a go-to spot for classic French fare in a cozy setting, whether you’re craving a hearty breakfast or a leisurely dinner.
Tribeca: This has been a longtime favorite of ours for its delightful array of pizzas, pastas and sandwiches at wallet-friendly prices. We love to sit back, relax and watch the world go by as we savor delicious bites at this local gem.
Brasserie PTT: Remodeled from the old post office brasserie, this establishment offers a delectable menu that attracts plenty of locals—a sure sign of its quality and charm.
Café Roussilon: Situated on the corner of rue Cler and rue de Grenelle, Café Roussilon is also a local favorite.
Delis and Delicatessens
Davoli and Jeusselin: These culinary hotspots have been our go-to spots for years. We love the perfect blend of Italian delicacies and French savoir-faire they offer, from savory hams to freshly prepared dishes.
Davoli has recently expanded with their first family restaurant, Little Davoli, located next to their delicatessen. Here, you can indulge in antipasti, Italian artisanal charcuterie, fresh pasta, pizza and homemade specialties sourced from the best Italian and French producers. Be sure to pair your meal with their Italian roasted coffees and treat yourself to Italian ice cream, tiramisu or homemade panna cotta.
Philippe swears by Davoli’s Choucroute with sausage and ham—it’s the best in the universe, especially on cold winter days. He often opts for a selection of small salads for lunch and adores their roasted vegetables and ratatouille.
Madelyn can’t get enough of the quiches, salads and main courses at Jeusselin. Why not try both delis and decide your favorite for yourself?
Mon Petit Poulet: Whenever we’re craving succulent roast chicken, Mon Petit Poulet is our first choice. It’s a true taste of comfort in the heart of Paris.
La Sablaise: Dive into the sea of flavors at La Sablaise, where an array of fresh seafood delights awaits. From market-fresh fish to prepared dishes, this fish shop is a culinary haven for seafood aficionados.
The New Lebanese Deli: This newly opened spot has quickly become a favorite of ours for its amazing tabbouleh and other specialties.
Pâtisseries, Boulangeries & Chocolate
Maison Julien: Maison Julien is our favorite bakery, and soon to be yours too. From their flaky croissants to mouth watering pastries, every bite is a culinary delight. Philippe especially loves their baguette tradition—a baguette that’s been made with minimal ingredients and therefore is more old-fashioned and pure. Read our tips for ordering at a French bakery like a local.
La Maison Othon: Located at the corner of rue Cler and rue St. Dominique. Philippe swears by their croissants as the best in the neighborhood!
Pralus: You have to try the famous praline brioches at Pralus—they’re a real treat crafted by the founder. You can’t leave Paris without trying this delicious delight.
À la Mère de Famille: As Paris’s oldest sweet shop, this charming establishment holds a special place in our hearts. Indulge in sweet treats here and experience a taste of history with their decadent chocolates and confections.
Note: The neighborhood offers an abundance of options when it comes to chocolate stores! In addition to La Mère de Famille, you’ll find Alain Ducasse’s fantastic chocolate shop just a few doors away on rue Cler. One of our personal favorites is Jean Paul Hévin, conveniently situated at 23bis Av. de la Motte-Picquet. And be sure not to miss Alleno e Rivoire around the corner on 9 Rue du Champ de Mars. They’ve perfected the art of fine chocolate using birch sugar, which boasts lower calories and no sugar lows! We adore it and feel less guilty indulging in it.
Cheese Shops
La Fromagerie: A paradise for cheese lovers. Begin your cheese journey here, and prepare to be transported to dairy heaven with their exquisite selection of fromages.
Marie Anne Cantin: Fun fact – she supplies cheeses to the Élysée Palace, which are enjoyed by heads of state at formal dinners! You’ll find her shop just off rue Cler on rue du Champs de Mars. The staff are incredibly helpful; don’t hesitate to ask them for recommendations on excellent soft cheeses, inquire about their personal favorites, and they might even offer you a taste!
Fromage Griffon: At the end of rue Cler and across Av. de la Motte-Picquet, you’ll discover a cheese shop with a unique twist, cheese displayed as gorgeous pastries. Not only is the display aesthetically pleasing, but the cheese selection offers excellent quality and intriguing combinations.
Wine & More …
Le Repaire de Bacchus: Wine enthusiasts rejoice at Le Repaire de Bacchus, where we always find the perfect bottle to complement our Parisian adventures.
Mariage Frères: Delight in exquisite teas from around the globe at Mariage Frères, and savor the tranquil ambiance of their elegant tea room.
L’Epicerie Fine: Treat yourself to Berthillon ice cream, our favorite in the world! Conveniently located just off rue Cler.
