A Paris open-air market with unforgettable views at the Marché Saxe-Breteuil
Each one of the many open-air markets in Paris has a charm of its own. But there’s only one that has such a stunning setting with perfectly framed views of the Eiffel Tower. That would be the Marché Saxe-Breteuil in the 7th arrondissement! This market sets up every Thursday and Saturday morning along Avenue de Saxe, a beautiful street lined with sycamore trees and elegant Parisian buildings. This street sits along the same axis as the Champ de Mars that stretches from the Eiffel Tower to the Ecole Militaire. That’s how you get those picture perfect views of the Eiffel Tower.

However, it’s not the view that brings the locals, it’s the excellent selection of high quality meats, cheeses, seafood, fruits and veggies heaped high on the tables in artfully designed and appealing displays. There are several fishmongers from Normandy and Brittany that bring in a wonderful selection of fresh fish and seafood.
This is the perfect one stop spot for fresh breads, a tempting selection of fresh cheeses, fruits and vegetables and artisan products to enjoy during your stay in Paris or take home as gifts for friends and family. The Marché Saxe-Breteuil has more than just food, too. While strolling along the stalls on either side of the street you’ll find tables piled high with tableclothes, handmade soaps, jams and jellies, items for the home and kitchen and more. The market also has vendors that sell prepared foods, such as delicious French classics like beef bourguignon to Mediterranean dishes like paella or exotic spiced dishes made with couscous. You’ll also find (follow your nose!) freshly roasted chicken, sausages and meats with accompanying roasted potatoes or kraut. This is perfect if you’d like an easy to enjoy meal at home that’s a bit heartier than cheese and fresh breads.
The Saxe-Breteuil Market takes place on the tree-lined street from the round Place de Breteuil (in the foreground of this photo) toward the Ecole Militaire. You can see how close it is to the Eiffel Tower!
