Description of our Paris apartment rental
We always say that great Paris apartment rentals are hard to find. For example, when we first heard that the St. Emilion Paris apartment was for sale, a neighbor had told us about it and we called immediately. Although it was a gloomy and wet winter’s day in Paris, the view absolutely blew us away. The owner of our Paris apartment rental had been born there 80 years before and it was filled with dark furniture and memorabilia. Our St. Emilion Paris apartment rental has an incredible, straight-on view of La Grande Dame de Paris: the Eiffel Tower, which our rental guests can admire from two pairs of French doors in the living room. It’s simply amazing and our apartment rental guests pinch themselves to believe they are really in Paris; they can even see the people on the observation deck. Gaze to the right to view the riverbank towards the beautiful Trocadéro. It’s an ideal vacation rental for your holiday in Paris!
Our St. Emilion Paris apartment rental has two bedrooms, two baths, is fully air conditioned with a large living room and all of the things you would want in order to have a wonderful stay. It is 750 square feet, on the sixth floor (with elevator) and faces west, which means it is above the treetops, very light and sunny. Elegantly furnished, our Paris apartment rental offers a warm and romantic stay in Paris. The original features have been carefully restored, including original oak floors, moldings, and fireplace (decorative only).
Enter our Paris apartment to a wide corridor leading to each room. From the picture of the entryway on our site, you see the master bathroom straight ahead. We found two wooden gargoyles at the Puces antique market several years ago and have used them as the base of a rounded-glass table in the entryway. Our architect allowed for all doors to be closed off, so you may work there without disturbing others; small factors to consider when renting.
Turn right into the open living and dining room of the apartment where our rental guests tell us the view of the Eiffel Tower and Paris simply take their breath away. It is a beautiful double room where sunlight pours in. The original oak floors are laid in classic herringbone pattern and have been restored to their original beauty; the fireplace is on your right. This room has two pair of French doors which lead onto decorative balconies; our guests are simply astounded by the view of the Eiffel Tower straight ahead and the gardens of the Champ de Mars and Parisian life below. The view is simply magnificent day and night, but in June, 2003 something special happened. The City of Paris relit the magic fairy lights which were used for the Millennium celebrations and they now twinkle for ten minutes every hour after dark. It is truly magical. When you are ready to sleep, it’s not a problem in our apartments as we have installed blackout shades on all of our windows and French doors – but our rental guests tell us they prefer to leave them open and enjoy the view of the Eiffel Tower in Paris.
Between the French doors stands an antique walnut chest of drawers, a beautiful focal point and practical for storage. The original gray fireplace (decorative only) stands on the right, surrounded by a Louis Philippe-style sofa bed and two armchairs. The empire-style sofa bed is on your left with an armchair facing it. The sofa was made for us and we find it more practical and comfortable for guests than traditional sofa beds. It is over two meters long and actually has a twin mattress for the sofa seat, plus a twin trundle which pulls out from underneath. The mattresses are on wooden slats, meaning good support at sleeping and sitting. They are good for sitting on, for taking naps, or to convert to comfortable beds at night. A pretty oak love seat sits in the corner next to the fireplace. It is covered in beige checked fabric and makes a cozy seat for reading and enjoying the view. The view and furnishings make it easy to understand why we have been contacted by several film companies to rent the apartment.
Next to the fireplace is a marble bistro table with TV, DVD player, and stereo. The DVD and CD player are compatible with American movies, so you can bring some of your favorites with you. The satellite connection means you can watch CNN and BBC news, and sample all of the French channels as well. We provide a free wireless ADSL line so you can check your emails while savoring the view.
The far left wall is lined with built-in sycamore cupboards providing storage, in simple contrast to the antiques and oak parquet floor. The pale round dining table sits in front of the French doors, which means you can savor the view while having your café au lait and croissants in the morning, or dining to the Eiffel Tower’s glow at night. The table expands to seat six, and a colorful Italian glass chandelier sits above it.
Enter the kitchen on the left of our apartment’s living room to find a well-designed space where you can prepare and cook a gourmet meal in Paris, the capital of cuisine. One of the nicest surprises is the wide opening above the sink which offers a view the Eiffel Tower, even while doing dishes. There is a large refrigerator/freezer, microwave, oven, four-burner stove, dishwasher, teapot, coffeemaker, expresso maker, and toaster. Granite countertops in pink and gray complement the sycamore cabinets. We have provided all of the cooking and serving accessories you need. The white porcelain dishes are from E. Dehellerin in Paris, the shop which furnishes all good restaurants. With a full array of cookware, you can shop the local open markets and shops to prepare your own gourmet meals.
From the front door of the apartment, find the toilet on your left with toilet, sink, and plenty of hooks for extra ‘getting ready’ room.
The guest bedroom of our Parisian apartment rental is next on your left and has an en suite bathroom. There are two single beds; one is a trundle under the other. A built-in closet for storage is on the far right. The bedspread is quilted from traditional toile de jouy fabric, giving the room a fresh Provençal feel. French doors and a charming balcony mean you can step out and enjoy the view over the quartier’s rooftops. This bedroom was originally the kitchen and had a ‘garde manger’ or cold closet under the window which stuck out from the building and had wooden slats for air circulation. The garde manager was all people had to keep their food cool as refrigerators didn’t exist when the building was constructed. We saw the view and received permission to remove the ‘garde manger’ and transform the window into French doors with a small balcony. The view at sunrise from the balcony was worth every penny.
The en suite bathroom is tiled in Italian marble; a decorative frieze surrounds the walls and gives the room a Mediterranean feel. It’s a sunny room with two windows, toilet, sink, and beautifully tiled long shower and bench.
An important note: almost all of our showers have a fixed shower head as well as a flexible one, unlike most apartments in France. We also install 80-gallon hot water tanks, the largest available, so you don’t run out of hot water halfway through the second shower. This is a rarity in France. These details are not obvious when you are searching for an apartment in Paris, but we think they are important touches.
Continue down the corridor to the master bedroom on your left. There is a built-in closet on the right, as you enter. The room has a high-quality queen-size bed which we imported from Italy, good reading lamps, and French doors with a small balcony. There are beautiful views over the rooftops. As in the other rooms, blackout blinds allow you to sleep comfortably but also read in bed on a lazy day. The headboard is a copy of a Venetian ‘banchetta’, painted in pale yellows and beige, giving the room a soft, romantic touch. Facing the bed is a narrow brown leather console table with flat screen TV and access to both French stations and English-speaking news stations. A dramatic antique mirror sits on top.
An important note: all of the windows are state-of-the-art double glazed, the same as used in luxury hotels. The apartment is located in the middle of this bustling city, but is extremely quiet for a good night’s sleep.
At the far end of the corridor, find the master bathroom of the apartment with bathtub and shower. A pair of antique white marble sinks sits on the limestone worktop; they came from Naples and are carved in the form of large seashells. The room is tiled in beige limestone; a frieze of a mythical fish hangs above the bathtub. We found beautiful, large chrome hooks at the Marche’ aux Puces for hanging towels and toilet kits. Two narrow medicine chests and a shelf below the sinks provides ample storage.
There is a full washer and separate dryer in the bathroom closet.
Important Features and the Neighborhood:
- Unobstructed, spectacular view of the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars Park -- stay in Paris and overlook the dark courtyard on the inside of the building? Not an option; you invest a lot to come to Paris and you should be rewarded with an unforgettable view of this eternal city.
- You know you are in one of the best neighborhoods in Paris, because Princess Caroline of Monaco and Prince Ernst of Hanover share a large apartment on an upper floor across the street.
- The location is one of the best in Paris: 3-minute walk to the river; 15 minutes to the Invalides; 10 minutes to the Trocadéro; the Grand Palais and the couturier's on Ave. Montaigne, the Four Seasons George V for tea or 3-star dining; 15-minute walk to the Champs Elysées; 20-minute walk to Place de la Concorde and the Bon Marché department store.
- You are surrounded by restaurants that local Parisians go to, cafés, bistros and shops.
- You are six blocks to the golden dome of the Invalides, where Napoleon is buried, along with surrounding park.
- You are seven blocks to the incredible Rodin Museum.
- One block to the Eiffel Tower and Champ de Mars. The Champ de Mars Park is a rare bonus in Paris as there are few large parks in the center of the city. Walk, run, play in 1 of 3 playgrounds, basketball court, go to the puppet theater or just sit and enjoy. Nearby skating and bike rental are fun activities in the park, especially after strenuous site seeing. The apartment is next to the American Library, an institution in Paris, and across from an old elementary school built at the turn-of-the-century.
- In January 2005, the Eiffel Tower converted the first floor into an ice skating rink 189 feet high above the rooftops of Paris; we hope it will continue every year.
- The Seine River is three blocks away and right near where the famous Bateau Mouche boat tours begin.
- Open Markets: Rue Cler is five blocks away, one of the best and most famous streets for food in Paris. Pont de l'Alma is a five-minutes walk and has the largest open market in Paris every Saturday morning. Merchants come from the country with wines, fruits, vegetables, flowers, fish, pâtés, breads, even five types of escargots!
We leave several Paris guidebooks and other information on the neighborhood for you to peruse during your stay.
This is a non-smoking apartment and, sorry, but no pets are allowed.
We think you will love staying in our Paris vacation apartment rental!
